What is a vignette?

A vignette can be used by writers, scholars, and artists in many walks of life as a way to focus in on a particular character, issue, or moment. A vignette is a "snapshot" of a particular moment that can help the writer come to terms with a personal or professional issue or illustrate that moment for others to learn from. Vignettes

A vignette is similar to anecdote but an anecdote is often short and focused on illustrating a simple message while a vignette is more detailed and layered. A vignette is a fully stand-alone short story while an anecdote usually needs some setup or explanation to serve its purpose.
